Les Gallagher, originally from the UK, first arrived in the Azores in 1987 to start out in what became a 15 year career in big game fishing. These days, Les works as a marine life Artist and mostly in collaboration with Horta’s Department of Oceanography and Fisheries, University of the Azores. Illustrations are being created using a Wacom tablet and digital brush with Adobe Photoshop CS4. Digital painting is the application of coloured pixels to an image rather than using physical paint or ink. It can be likened to painting with light and offers many workflow advantages over conventional illustration methods. With sufficient processing power supplied by a Mac Pro computer and a 30” Apple display, illustrations can be created at very high resolutions making them suitable for a broad range of applications including Large Format. The finished image files can be sent over the internet, they are high quality, extremely print friendly and can be supplied in layered formats with an invisible background if required.
